Hex CLI login session Install the CLI, then run hex auth login. Hex opens a browser so you can select a workspace and sign in; the CLI stores the resulting credentials in your system keyring. For custom-hosted workspaces, pass -H with the base URL as shown in the CLI docs.

OAuth 2.0

OAuth 2.0 โ€” self-onboarding

Point your MCP client at the server URL and approve access in the browser. The server supports OAuth Dynamic Client Registration (RFC 7591), so the client registers itself automatically โ€” no developer-portal app, client_id, or client_secret to create.

Hex personal access token In Hex, first ensure your workspace admin has enabled API access in Settings โ†’ Integrations. Then create a personal access token from the API token settings described in the API overview. Personal tokens are prefixed hxtp_ and inherit the permissions of the Hex user who created them.

Hex workspace token In Hex, a workspace admin can create a workspace token from the API token settings described in the API overview, after enabling API access in Settings โ†’ Integrations. Workspace tokens are prefixed hxtw_ and are intended for automation that should not be tied to one individual user.
